Safety and compliance
Councils, schools and families are trusting us with children who often can't tell anyone if something goes wrong. These are the standards we hold ourselves to, and the evidence we'll show you.
- Operator licensing
-
Application in progress
We're applying to the Traffic Commissioner for a standard PSV operator's licence, with a nominated transport manager. We won't run any paid journey until it's granted, and we'll share the licence number with every customer.
- Drivers
Every driver holds the right licence category for the vehicle (D1 or D), a current Driver CPC and an enhanced DBS check with a barred-list check for work with children. Licences are checked with the DVLA before they start and at regular intervals after.
- Passenger assistants
Enhanced DBS checked, trained in safeguarding, SEND awareness, first aid and safe use of wheelchair restraints. Where a child needs it, they travel seated beside them.
- Vehicles
Minibuses chosen to fit each route, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles with tested restraint systems. Each one has a driver's walkaround check before every shift and safety inspections on a fixed schedule, with records kept for audit.
- Insurance
Hire-and-reward motor insurance, public liability and employer's liability cover in place before any journey. Certificates are available to commissioning teams on request.
- Safeguarding and data
A written safeguarding policy with a named lead, clear incident reporting, and children's information handled under UK GDPR. Drivers carry only what they need for the journey.
Safeguarding
Our safeguarding policy follows Keeping Children Safe in Education and the London Safeguarding Children Procedures. We have a named designated safeguarding lead, and every member of staff knows how to report a concern the same day to the right local authority team.
If something goes wrong on a journey
- Drivers pull over safely and call our office before anything else.
- We tell the school and family straight away if a journey will be late or changed.
- Every incident, including behaviour incidents and near misses, is written up the same day and shared with the commissioning team.
- We review incidents monthly and change routes, seating or staffing where it helps.
Children's information
We hold only the information we need to run each journey safely, such as addresses, emergency contacts and the parts of a pupil passport relevant to travel. It's stored securely, shared with drivers and assistants only for their own routes, and deleted when we stop transporting the child. See our privacy notice.
Documents for commissioners
On request we can send our safeguarding policy, insurance certificates, staff training matrix, vehicle inspection schedule, complaints procedure and business continuity plan. Email mahad@sentineltransport.co.uk.
